Hazelnut
I’m happy to announce that Hazel Edith was born early in the morning on Friday, October 15.
She was 8 lbs 9 oz, which I know isn’t huge, but compared to Zoe’s birth weight (5 lbs 1 oz), she seems massive. She’s 20 1/2 inches long.
Her birth was surprisingly quick given that it was my first vaginal birth – contractions started around 9 pm, got intense around midnight, we got to the hospital at 1 am, and she was born at 5:41 am.
We’re all healthy and getting as much sleep as anyone ever gets with a newborn in the house. She lets us know when she’s unhappy, but she’s pretty easy to calm once we get her what she needs.
Zoe’s done awesome with being a big sister. She’s always asking about her little sister, and trying to help. She doesn’t like the name Hazel, but she does think it’s funny to call her “Hazelnut.” There have been some pretty massive melt downs the last couple of evenings – we’ve tried to keep some semblance of a routine, but it’s hard – but she’s always taken out her anger on Chris and I, not the baby. And really, given all the changes, she’s doing way better than I’d expect.
So, two girls. This next part of the adventure should be an exciting one.

Congratulations!!! So happy she is here!
Congratulations! That’s some adorable babyage there.
She’s so beautiful! Congratulations, Ann! I’m so happy for you.
Congratulations and well done! Glad everything went smoothly.
What a beautiful name. Congratulations to you and your family!
Congratulations! She is so very beautiful. Tell Big Sis how happy I am for her!
Lovelovelove the pic of them together. And Shoshanna will be thrilled to hear that Z is calling her Hazelnut because that was the first thing she asked when we told her that her name was Hazel. Literally. “Hazel. Are they going to call her hazelnut?”. Just like that.
Hazel… A name we also considered. Congratulations on number two!
Congratulations!! and love the nickname.
We dealt with major jealousy issues and it stinks, but I found helping the Older verbalize or act out those feelings in ways that didn’t hurt people took forever (like years) but consistency did reap rewards. Gus, too, hit us and not the baby, though he later would tap her hard on the head.
I hope you get through it ok. Good news is they became friends when Younger could verbalize and be funny and interact more. They have some really really good moments together (and the usual sick-of-you-right-now, too!)
Congratulations!! Love the name.
She is adorable and I love the nickname Hazelnut.
How very exciting for Zoe! Big sisters are the best. I know just from my two little ones that they will be very close & the best of friends for a long time. They will also probably slap and fight a lot, but it’s part of the game
Congrats again!
